Most likely you have a viral or bacterial throat infection. Of the bacterial infections, strep throat is the leading cause.
Call your doctor to see if you need a throat culture.
Lymph node swelling that is related to an infection usually resolves after one to two weeks. Mononucleosis is an exception; the lymph node swelling can last for several weeks.
